“It moved every feeling of wonder and awe, that the picture of an omnipotent God warring with his creatures was capable of exciting,” the Creature reflects. The Creature’s reaction to, “Paradise Lost,” is as deep as the book suggested. The second book was a biography named, “Plutarch’s Classic Lives,” where the creature learns the differences between good and evil. The Creature learns to have sympathy for the young lovers in the novel. The first book was a popular novel called, “The Sorrows of Young Werther,” by Goethe. The Creature established human feelings by reading the 3 books given to him. Victor Frankenstein created a monster that will bring death, but before that happened, the Creature wanted to get an education. Both characters have lots of power, but they are not capable of handling it.īoth characters are doomed by their fate. Unlike Victor, Satan takes over his forbidden duties, and isn’t punished by God. The Creature he created slaughtered his family. Victor was punished by what his vanity gave him. Instead this achievement caused him to be punished by God. After creating the Creature, he imagines he will be worshiped by it, like a father.
Victor Frankenstein is a scientist who is thirsty for the forbidden knowledge, because his Creature made him think he has taken over God’s role. Victor Frankenstein’s actions of playing God are really similar to how Satan acts. The Creature Victor created with his arrogance, resembles Satan in, “Paradise lost.” Satan disobeyed God’s order, and finally become the representation of devil. Victor reached this level by arrogance and vanity. Throughout his studies, he started to find the initial source of life. He left home for years, learning science and working in the laboratory for years. Then both of them had the thirst of the forbidden power, they wanted to have the power to avoid death. This is just like Satan’s childhood in, “Paradise Lost.” Unfortunately, both character’s perspectives were deformed due to the deaths of their mothers. His parents gave lots of love and brought lots of happiness to him. The childhood of Victor Frankenstein was happy. There are lots of similarities in their plots, both combined sins and reality, and a character that disobeys god. There are lots of similar themes found in the famous poem, “Paradise Lost,” written by John Milton.Īt different time periods, both authors created a magnificent master piece. The main plot of the story symbolizes what will happen once you go beyond God’s duty, and into forbidden power. “Frankenstein,” is the monster that was created by Mary Shelly.
