If you need sustained 4K at the highest frame rates, CFExpress cards are recommended by Sony. However, I don’t think anybody would buy this expensive camera and use cheaper SD cards – not unless they were desperate. These slots are also compatible with SDXC cards supporting UHS-I and UHS-II speed classes. The Sony Alpha 1 ( Amazon, B&H) has dual CFexpress Card Type A slots. Of course, ambient temperatures and the camera temperature will dictate what actual record times you get. This makes it possible to record 8K/30p or 4K/60p videos, or 10-bit 4:2:0 video continuously for more than 30 minutes. There isn’t a fan, but 30 minutes seems to be the limit:Ī newly developed heat-dissipating structure keeps image sensor and image processing engine temperatures within their normal operating range, preventing overheating while maintaining compact body dimensions. Sony’s official website claims that Sony Alpha 1 ( Amazon, B&H) can record in XAVC 8K for a maximum of 30 minutes continuously. I think it’s safe to say the Alpha 1 isn’t a low light camera a la Sony a7S III.

The ISO range is ISO 100–32000, and the expanded ISO (only forcan reach ISO 102400. Unlike the Sony FX6, the Sony Alpha 1 ( Amazon, B&H) does not claim to come with dual base ISOs. What is the dynamic range of the Sony Alpha 1?Īccording to Sony, the dynamic range is about 15+ stops in S-Log3.

Proxy files can be written in 8-bit 4:2:0 XAVC-L 1080p at 16Mbps. The maximum frame rate for HD is 240 fps. But it’s doable with an external monitor. The Sony Alpha 1 isn’t the perfect camera for anamorphic shooters. If you shoot in 8K, and want to use 2x anamorphic lenses, you’ll get an effective resolution of 5184 x 4320 (1.2:1), so you definitely accomplish a 4K anamorphic finish.

With a 1.8x squeeze anamorphic lens, a 16:9 aspect ratio transforms into a 3.2:1 aspect ratio, and if you shoot full frame 1.5 (like with the Sony Venice), you’ll get 2.7:1.

You’ll be forced to chop off the sides to get 2.39:1. sensor is 16:9, so a 2x squeeze will result in an aspect ratio of 3.55:1. The Sony Alpha 1 ( Amazon, B&H) does not have an anamorphic mode, nor an anamorphic desqueeze function.

*The best quality image is only available up to 60p. Here are the data rates for 10-bit 4:2:2 for the Sony Alpha 1 ( Amazon, B&H): Frame rates at 4K

It’s not a big difference, but it’s important to highlight, especially if you’re trying to match the Alpha 1 to other full frame cine cameras. E.g., a 50mm lens will give you a 35mm equivalent of about 55mm.
